Chlorofluorocarbons are emitted by different materials such as refrigerator, air conditioner, and aerosol sprays. Through studying the components of these products engineers can enhance and create a less destructive mechanism. Individuals should start changing their appliances into energy efficient ones, in this way everyone can help in reducing the production of these harmful substances. Vehicles release carbon monoxide, a colorless and odorless gas produced by burning of fuels. It also affects global warming so by using the knowledge and skills of our engineers we can create cars that uses other power source to work. Clima Mobility, a member of Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines created a fully electric car that has a 5 seating capacity that can run at high speed without burning fuels which will surely help in minimizing the production of the toxic gas around us. A professor in the University of the Philippines found a way to turn bamboo into a amphibious car powered by solar energy and windmills. Another way is by encouraging people to use public transportation when going somewhere to be able to lessen the amount of cars in our highways. Solar panels are also invented to convert solar energy from the sun into electricity which will lessen the burning of coals. A 16 year old student at St. Michaels University School in Victoria, British Columbia created the first flashlight powered by our own body heat, this invention will help us to save electricity and minimize the usage of batteries that can be toxic to our environment.
Scientists are also doing experiments like plants with a huge appetite for carbon dioxide and they are also designing mechanical trees that absorbs carbon dioxide to fight global warming. Thanks to science we are able to study that we can also get energy from many different ways. First is solar energy that can be harvested from the sun through solar panels. Wind energy that can be produced by large turbines that uses wind as power to turn. Geothermal energy is extracted from beneath the earth through a rotating turbines that uses the steam from the hot rocks present underneath the earth’s surface. Biomass energy is produced from different organic materials that can be found all over the world. These are just some of the ways to prevent climate change but the most important thing is to have discipline and be responsible citizen of your one and only planet.
