Who is she?

Salma Hayek is a Mexican film actress, was a former model, and works as a producer. Her first step in her career was starring in the telanovela, Teresa. She was nominated for an Ariel award from starring in another flim El callejon de los Milagros. In 2001 she was nominated for Women of the Year, then in 2002 she was nominated for another award, Best Actress for an Academy Award, Golden Globe, and a couple more.

Early life

Salma Hayek was born on September 2, 1966. Her father was Sami Hayek Dominguez, and her mother was Diana Jimenez Medina. Her father worked as a business person, and her mother was a singer. As a child Salma got inspired to be an actress by the movie Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory. Salma was raised in a wealthy Roma Catholic family. Her family sent her to the U.S. at the young age of 12 to study at the Academy of the Sacred Heart, in Grand Coteau, Louisiana. At this point in time while she was studying in the U.S. she was diagnosed with dyslexia, but that never stopped her from doing her dreams.

Personal Life

Although Salma was raised Catholic she doesn’t really believe in the church anymore, but still believes in Jesus Christ and God. In the year 2007, on March 9th she got engaged to François-Henri Pinault. She then announced her pregnancy with a baby girl. Later that year in September of 2007 she gave birth to her little girl Valentina Paloma Pinault. A couple years later in 2009 Salma and her husband François-Henri got married on Valentines Day. Shortly after she became an activist, raising awareness for women that have been abused. On July 19, 2005 Salma testified in front of the U.S. committee trying to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act. In February 2006, she donated almost $100″,000 to Mexico. $25″,000 went to a Coatzacoalcos, Mexico shelter that was for abused women, then another $50″,000 to an anti-domestic violence group. Then in 2010 she deserved a Do Something award for being a good humanitarian.

About Her Career

Salma’s career started when she was 23 years old. Throughout her career she has either directed, produced, or starred in around 52 movies. Salma has also received at least 6 awards. Salma was first inspired by the movie Willy Wonka in the Chocolate Factory. Then in 1989 she starred in her first telenovela. The first movie she ever starred in was El Callejon de los Milagros. She has also starred in American favorites like Grown Up’s, Grown Up’s 2, Puss in Boots, and Spy Kids. Her first feature film as a producer was El Coronel No Tiene Quien Le Escriba. In the year 2000, Salma founded a producing company. Salma also co-produced the film Frida, where she was the main character.

In the year 1998 Salma was a spokeswoman for Revlon. Then is February of 2004, she became a spokeswoman for Avon Cosmetics and has been ever since. In 2001 Salma also modeled for Chopard, and then was featured in 2006 Campri ads. In 2009, on April 3rd Salma helped introduce La Dona (a watch by Cartier). Salma is a spokesperson all around the world for Pampers/UNICEF. This helps promote funding of vaccines against maternal and neonatal tetanus. In the year 2011, Salma launched a line of her own makeup, skincare products, and hair products.
