The term pop-culture is a product of 21st century where the celebrities not only have to maintain their active presence on the screen but also on social media. With the advent of social media a person’s social life has come under direct scrutiny 24/7. And the stakes to maintain a positive image in front of the people are extremely high. Small mishaps—some errant foul language here, an out-of-context comment there—end up on TMZ, amplified and endlessly analyzed by the media. The rhetoric famous for being famous in popular culture often depicts someone who attains the status of being a celebrity or star for no distinguishable character or there could be someone who get to the point of fame by means of association with a popular celebrity. Along with that the celebrities are also used to do the marketing work of a brand. The aim to associate a popular person with a brand is to bring credibility and ‘cool’ to a brand. For example in the year 1993 McDonalds also used Michael Jordan, this time with Larry Bird, in its ‘Nothing but net’ commercial. In 2010, the company recreated the ad using basketball greats Dwight Howard and Lebron James. The love for these star were immense which pour a great favor to the brand as well. A celebrity in today’s time acts both as consumer and as a marketer to attract the people towards the brand.

Another aspect to capture public’s attention is to help different causes worldwide. Either related to the human or animal protection. Along with that the standard view of celebrity promotion considerably overemphasizes the news-making talents of such figures in the political arena. For instance, when Brad Pitt being an A-listed Hollywood actor was paid a reported $7 million to star in a 30 second commercial, proving that there’s little doubt that in the world of advertising, star power continues to command big bucks. The endorsement of products around the globe is a tried-and-tested approach used by the brands in order to enhance their sales and surge product reminiscence amid customers. The celebs have a certain amount of charm that pleas to customers, giving a supposed connection with a public figure that they appreciate.

According to a study done in the year 2010, the BBC reported that when women were presented with photographs of similarly attractive famous and non-famous women – both wearing the same shoes – researchers found heightened brain activity levels connected with fondness when the women viewed at the snaps of celebrities. This compels brand to opt for a famous celebrity rather than an attractive but not so famous models to do their campaigns. Chanel being one the high profile brands have invested a considerable amount to endorse its products and gain its customers through the star power and huge fan bases of famous celebrities. Having famous celebrity as your brand face assist a lot in breaking through the advertising clutter and grabs consumer attention more effectively. The Star power of her never faded away after these years because of the way she is willing to wear her characters not only mentally but physically. Meryl Streep spent much of the 1980s submerged in a variety of roles. We have seen her in comedy, drama, and negative roles, and she was brilliant in portraying such characters with elegance.
