Famous Entrepreneurs Who Experienced Poverty Success doesn’t come easily. It takes a lot of patience, hardwork and determination to attain them. Did you know that not all famous entrepreneurs are born with a silver-spoon on their mouth? They started from nothing, and even experienced poverty before they rose to prominence. So here are some famous entrepreneurs who experienced poverty but soon released world-renowned, successful brand names that we live up today. 1. Henry Sy Sr. – he is the famous owner and founder of our favorite shopping mall today, SM. He is the richest Filipino businessman, who recently died at the age of 94. At a very young age, he helped his father sell rice and fish just to generate income for their family. He soon started ShoeMart, a small shoe store in Quiapo, Manila. Little did he know that it will mark the beginning of his successful journey. 2. Howard Schultz – he is the owner of our favorite coffee brand, Starbucks. When he was still a child, their family has no income. Just to pay for his College tuition fees, he worked as a bartender and even sold his own blood. He saw the potential of a small coffee brand to grow while maintaining its high quality. As of 2018, Starbucks has 29″,324 stores around the world. ‍♀️ ‍♀️☕☕ 3. J.K. Rowling – she is the world-renowned author of the best-selling book and film series, Harry Potter. She was a single mother, divorced twice and was left jobless and penniless. She released her first book, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone and who would have thought that it will be sold for more than 450 million copies? ✍✍✍ 4. Tony Tan Caktiong – he is the owner and founder of our favorite fastfood restaurant, Jollibee. His father used his savings from their small Chinese restaurant in Manila to send him in College. He founded Jollibee from his philosophy, “joy despite being busy as a bee.” Who would have thought that his famous “Chickenjoy” captured the hearts of Filipinos and other countries? 5. Do Won Chang – he and his wife, Jin Sook are the owners and founder of the famous clothing brand today, Forever 21. Do Won started out working 3 low-paid jobs as a janitor, gas station attendant and coffee shop attendant. He noticed that most of the rich people in the US belong in the garment industry. This inspired him to open his own apparel and garment store. They opened their first store in California and called it Fashion 21, and it soon became Forever 21, which now has multi-national stores around the globe. You too can be successful entrepreneur!
