The worst NBA basketball teams of all time

Good morning/afternoon, today I will be talking to you about the ten worst worst NBA teams of all time. For those of you who don’t know what the NBA is it is a professional basketball league. There have been many teams that have had horribly bad. Most of the time people like to look at the best players and teams, but it is also fun to look at the worst as well. We will start from the best of the worst ten and go to the worst of the worst.

Number 10 is the 1988-89 Miami Heat. Their record that year was 15 wins and 67 losses. That year they started the season by losing 17 straight games. Their leader in points per game was Kevin Edwards; he averaged 13.8 points per game. That was the lowest averages for a team’s top scorer in league history. That offseason they drafted well and would end up making the playoffs three years later.

Number 9 is the 1995-96 Vancouver Grizzlies who have now relocated to Memphis. Their record was also 15 wins and 67 losses. Unlike Miami they started the season with two wins. After that it got worse when they lost 19 straight. Later they set the record for the most losses straight 23. Their leader in points per game was Greg Anthony with 14. It got so bad that the 1999 lottery pick didn’t even play for them. That was when they made their move to Memphis.

Number 8 is the 2004-05 Atlanta hawks. Their record was 13 wins and 69 losses. They had players like Josh Smith, Antoine Walker, and the underrated Kevin Willis. Who were all good players in their prime. Antoine Walker was their leader in points per game with 20.4. Josh Smith was in his rookie season, Antoine Walker was 28 and just past his prime, and Kevin Willis who was 42 but still good. In the end their team was a bad mix of aging veterans and undisciplined youth.

Number 7 is the 1986-87 Los Angeles Clippers. Their record was 12 wins and 70 losses. That year Legend Elgin Baylor was named the teams general manager right before the draft with no picks. Their team was still good with players like Mike Woodson, Michael Cage, Benoit Benjamin, and Larry Drew. Their leader in points per game was Michael Cage with 15.7. They started good with three wins in 6ix games. They followed that by winning 4 of the next 41.

Number 6 is the 2009-10 New Jersey Nets. Their record was 12 wins and 70. They had two stars Devin Harris and Brook Lopez. Their leader in points per game was Brook Lopez with 18.8. These Nets also made the record books by becoming the only NBA team to start the season 0-18. They also posted records of 3-40 and 4-48 along the way.

Now we are going into the top 5 worst NBA teams ever, if you thought those records were bad wait till I tell you the next ones.

Number 5 is the1982-83 Houston Rockets. Their horrible record was 14 wins and 68 losses. Their two best players were a old Calvin Murphy and an even olde Elvin Hayes. Then, it didn’t help that the Rockets lost Moses Malone to Philadelphia, getting Caldwell Jones in the free-agency before the season started up again. (The 76ers went on to win the championship.) Kobe Bryant’s dad, also played for this team. Their top scorer was none of the people mentioned above; it was Allen Leavell who averaged 14.8 points per game.

Number 4 is the 1992-93 Dallas Mavericks. Their record was 11 wins and 71 losses. The Mavericks’ actual problems started the season before, when star forward Roy Tarpley was kicked from the league for repeated substance abuse violations. They acquired star guard Fat Lever from Denver in exchange for a few first-round draft picks, but Lever missed the entire season because of a knee injury. On top of all that, leading scorer Rolando Blackman was traded to New York and the first-round pick they got (Jim Jackson) played in just 28 games. Their leading scorer that season was Derek Harper who averaged 18.2 points per game.

Number 3 is the 1997-98 Denver Nuggets. Their record was the same at 11 and 17. Antonio McDyess was one of their best players he was a new-to-the-league Nuggets forward with a lot of energy. Then, Denver traded him (to Phoenix) before the season started. At least the Nuggets weren’t until Carmelo Anthony was drafted with players like LeBron James who went to the Cavaliers and Dwayne Wade who went to the Miami Heat. But in 1997-98, the Nuggets tied the Grizzlies’ loss streak at 23, then they fired coach Bill Hanzlik after the season who was replaced by Mike D’Antoni. Their leader in points per game was Eric Williams was 19.8 per game.

Number 2 is the 1972-73 Philadelphia 76ers. It gets worse at 9 wins and 7 losses. First: The 76ers fired their amazing coach Jack Ramsey and replaced him a random guy named Roy Rubin. Then: Star forward Billy Cunningham left to play in the American Basketball Association. Stuff got even worse after that, the Sixers started the season 4-47 and Rubin was fired, one of their players was his replacement Kevin Loughery, a 32-year-old guard who acted as player-coach. Meanwhile, the MVP on that team was NBA analyst Fred Carter. He was also the leader in points per game with 20.

Last but least we have the 2011-12 Charlotte Bobcats. They had 7 wins and 59 losses. The Bobcats didn’t have much talent to begin with, the owner signed off on trades of Tyson Chandler and Gerald Wallace. Injuries to Corey Maggette and D.J. Augustin left Charlotte without 2 of their best players. Their rookies Kemba Walker and Bismack Biyombo had to move into major roles. Other teams won by an average of 14 points per game, a league record, and lost their last 23 games. Rookie Kemba Walker was the leader in points per game and Bismack Biyombo (another rookie) was the leader in blocks per game with 1.8 a game.
